THE CORPUS PROFILE OF A WORD AS A TRANSLATOR’S PER- SPECTIVE TOOL

The article presents a corpus-based method developed to specify the cross-linguistic equivalence of words based on analysis their corpus profiles. was tested example names emotional concepts (ECs) which form «an anger petal» R. Plutchik’s wheel emotions in its English, German and Ukrainian language versions. first stage investigation involved comparative definitions lexemes mostly used by translators convey English «anger Ukrainian. It allowed eliminating cases false equivalence. At second results previous one were verified use corpora data. For this purpose, data define common distinctive senses 10 most relevant proximates each analysed EC as relevance intensity indicators. These indicators are criteria cross-cultural anger-like ECs, so proximate formed quite an objective basis for featuring such compared concepts: Anglo-Saxon «annoyance» ↔ «Ärger» «роздратування»; A-S. «anger» Germ. «Wut» Ukr. «гнів»; «rage» «Zorn» «лють». Extrapolated level, made it possible detect current semantic shades these ECs that helped more precise equivalents annoyance, rage. development testified fact forming profiles frequency do not require translators’ special efforts, approach specifying units can be considered perspective translation studies.
